New year Resolution

2020 is gone. And boy! Are we glad or what?!
And what better way to let the past year go, than to start the new one right!
If you’re a new mom, chances are, you probably weren’t able to stay up until midnight on NYE to see how the world was miraculously about to change; but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make some serious #newmom resolutions for the New Year. Here are our Top 4 resolutions every new mommy should make this year, and some expert Beddy tips on how to keep them as well.

1. The Resolution:
Live in the Real World. The Present.

Spending hours scrolling mindlessly through social media is so 2020. Be here. Be pre-sent with the tiny human you created – the one who needs you and adores you. Put down that phone; play peekaboo; blow kisses; talk and coo to your baby. This way you’ll catch all sorts of firsts and milestones, as well as smiles and giggles.

How to Keep the Resolution?

Is the Social Media force too strong? Allow yourself phone check-in points throughout the day, but only after you’ve spent significant quality time with your little one(s). Set a timer for each scrolling session to keep yourself from getting sucked into the black hole that is the Social Media universe. Also, most phones do come with a Do-Not-Disturb feature, #justsaying.

2. The Resolution:
Get Enough Sleep

Is that even a thing? I Well, yes, and getting enough rest is crucial for both, your physical and mental health, especially when you’re a new mom. But how? But when? Sleep when the baby sleeps, we’re told. Easier said than done!

How to Keep the Resolution?

As the primary life source for a tiny human, the idea of getting 8 hours of sleep every night probably sounds like a crazy, distant dream, doesn’t it? When babies are little, it’s important to go for quality over quantity. Create a space that’s conducive to your rest, just as you’ve done for your baby: Invest in blackout curtains; keep the room temperature comfortable; and, most importantly, make your phone off-limits at least two hours before bedtime. Use that phone-free time to unwind — make yourself a cup of tea, catch up on a favourite book or show, or just soak your feet in warm water. Whatever works for you!

3. The Resolution:
Distance makes the heart grow fonder

It’s easy to turn into a mama kangaroo and keep that tiny human attached to you 24/7. But absence will only make your mommy heart grow fonder — and possibly give you the chance to feel like a human again, even if it’s only for a couple of hours. One night a month, plan to slip on something pretty, head out with your husband, or friends, and lin-ger over dinner and a good time in general.

How to Keep the Resolution?

Ask for help – rope in a relative or friend to play baby sitter once a month for the rest of the year. Or take turns with your partner so you can each go out with friends.

4. The Resolution:

We hear it all the time for good reason: You need to take care of yourself well, so you can take care of those around you, especially your tiny human. If you’re going to keep only one resolution this year, make it this one.

How to Keep the Resolution?

Self-care isn’t just about indulging in bubble baths and hot chocolate, but real self-care includes opting for healthier food choices, going to sleep instead of staying up too to fin-ish that last episode on Netflix, or doing that 30-min walk or yoga, even when you’d so much rather chill with a cup of coffee.

These are the little changes that will help you be the best mom, and the best you all year long.

Happy New Year, Mommies!

We hope this is a good one for all of you 🙂
